Kew is treating us to a holiday like no other as most people have been unable to take a real one this year. so at the end of the post is a set of photos of specially commissioned works from around the world
It was cold and drizzling when I left home and although the rain stopped it didn't warm up
my new starting point after the Palm House is the evolution garden which is still full of colour, if some of it is going over now
as well as travel the world, Kew is also showcasing a floral humpback whale from a Netflix series Big Flower Fight (no idea, I don't have Netflix)
well I guess the sempervivium on the back are living
and I did like how the silvery foliage plants looked like water splashing
because I was following the map to find the travel pieces I was walking in a different order to usual.
along the Broad Walk was next
but once again new blogger is insisting on adding the photos out of order!
but once again new blogger is insisting on adding the photos out of order!
my route took me to the far edge of the gardens
with a view of the Thames
and I found myself at Lion Gate (lion on the gate at the exit. this is the furthest exit and not one I have ever used,
but I loved the building just outside the entrance with it's stylish chimneys
I headed back towards the next exhibit
these trees were huge and a great shape
(you've seen it before but I love it
we've had lots of rain recently, it has obviously encouraged the funghi to think it's autumn
the tall yellow flowers in the distance are un-attainable with the limited access which is a shame as I love them
as I walked along the central path you CAN use, I was astonished to see several groups of funghi in the flower beds along the path
lots of different colours and shapes
pretty lantana
walking backup the grass to the Palm House
this was a huge one
I did walk through the Palm House but the photos were too misty as the lens wouldn't stay cleared
I had similar trouble in the waterlily house too
as I headed back to the cafe for a drink I noticed the main fountain - "my" fountain - was on although with only a low spray(some of the other cafes do)
so I didn't linger
no sign of the weater dragon today
but the wall the other side to where he was last week was being splashed by the mini water fall
next stop towards the alpine house
I love purple and red together!
Now, time to travelthe world...
ten commissioned pieces
I tried to capture the entire work in one picture. not sure if you wil be able to read it all though
this is the welcome
now let's travel

Oh what a fabulous idea with the information around the world at Kew. I love love love the Whale - genius! The flowers are beautiful as always and that muffin looks nom. Hope it wasn't too wet and cold today, we attempted to paint the new shed, one coat only and then it rained so I now have a slightly different coloured deck - whoops!
Hugs
The evolution garden is filled with your favorite colors. That may be why you are drawn to it.
Holy cow. That humpback is amazing. I've seen real humpbacks and other than the fact this was created of plants and grasses, it looks just like a humpback whale. It's impressive and I see why it won.
I really liked the Lion Gate. It's beautiful and those chimneys are so different from ours in the states, too.
Fungi definitely come out in the rain. I especially liked the succulent and cacti.
I really enjoyed the Travel the World series. It is beautiful and most of it was legible, too. Thanks for taking the time to photograph all these wonderful stories and accounts.
Question. Do you add all your photos at once in the new blogger? I haven't used it yet. I'll wait till they force me to use it.
At last I get to visit (it's a long story but with Tony at home and not going out as he used to I have to queue for the computer - both of us prefer it's big screen!) I can see why the Evolution Garden has become a favourite - so much colour! We watched the Big Flower Fight - it was fascinating if you ever get the chance to see it! It's a shame that it has rained so much this Summer - and the storms the other week brought down quite a few trees around and about! I'm glad you got to see that beautiful Water Dragon - at least you know they are there now! I have noticed that the Red Hot Pokers seem to be really flourishing this year. I have been right back to July and every post was a real treat but especially the ones with the Agapanthus in! I am going to have to assert myself and get on here more often! Hope it's sunnier next weekend! Hugs, Chrisx
I wander to your post quite by accident, but what a treat. I visited the Kew many years ago - thank you for the trip down memory lane and around the world.
How wonderful that they're giving people the chance to travel, even if only in one's botanical imagination! A really fabulous feast of treats this week... I'm gradually catching up, and storing up possible reference photos for sketching and painting... I want to double-check you're alright with that - I'll always give credit and a link, obviously.
