Kew - a scorching Bank Holiday Saturday

Welcome along for another trip to Kew in the boiling heat. (although the rest of the weekend is forecast hotter)

we were thrilled to see Glad at the gate as she's not been able to make it for some months.

the replanting has begun of the beds at the Palm house

some of the goslings were helping cut the grass

erigeron along the wall of the pond

looking across the pond between Henry's!
a geum is poking through one of the anemone petals
down the Broad Walk

loving the purple

huge rose at an intersection
more alliums

cutting across the grass round the back of the Broad Walk, which was wet from dew (sandals being the order of the day but it was nice on my feet!)
peonies in the bed next to the Orangery

with irises
sunlit leaves
monkey puzzle

ox eye daisy

no sign of the fox cubs again

the wildflower border along the student plots is starting to flower, but the bed in front of the Bonsai house is further advanced

the other bed has a few cornflowers open

in the evolution garden
I don't know what these are
more of the poppies are out

roses in the EG

ceanothus in the EG still going strong

peony beds

tree trunks

decoration on a water fountain
gunnera

stopped for an early free cup of tea

found a table in the shade

heading towards the lake  after tea,

some goslings blocking our path!

paused at a Henry

I like this one

part of another Henry

as we approached the lake there was a lot of bird noise so we thought we would find Peter... we did

the swans were there too

the light was playing on the feathers so well

and some fab reflections as they swam about

after we'd been there a while, Glad came along and we all chatted

some greylags arrived with a ball of fluff!

making our way along the lake, we came across a fox on the path

I eventually got a fairly decent one

walking through the woodland,
shadows and leaves

no sign of Goldie again so we kept going

it was definitely a hat and sunscreen day

quick walk through the temperate house

then along towards the Med garden

through one of the holes in the brickwork (designed)
loving the contrast between the delphiniums and the California poppies

the Med garden is full of cistus, rock roses.

they're gorgeous and the bees love them too

lots of different shades of pink and purple, and white

as we got back toward the Palm House I noticed that the ropes stopping you walk through the Henry, Two Rings,  were gone

so we were able to recreate the publicity photo - kind of.

view of Henry from under a Tulip tree

more tree trunks
I didn't bother to put the macro back on

the Tulip tree is flowering, which is always a lovely sight

We headed round the edge of the rose garden

we were both pretty hot so managed to find a seat under a tree by the Broad Walk in the shade, for a bit, before making our ways home

looking at a final Henry ahead of us.

thanks for looking, hope you didn't get too hot,

enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend if you have one, see you soon.
