BH Monday a Kew - mostly Henrys

Despite the forecast heat warnings I headed for Kew for 8 again. It was already very warm but lots of members waiting by 8.

the sky was a lot bluer than on Saturday

Nice shadows of the gates before they opened

I was going to concentrate on Henry's first off

this is between the Broad Walk and the Waterlily house
it's called Large Standing Figure : knife edge

Locking Piece

I walked through this grass to get to the next shrub

this was one of the first ones to be installed on site

Family Group

I wish you could smell the roses!
I know I took some of this one on Saturday too

trying for different angles

great shadows making  patterns

walking under trees for some shade and respite from the sun

next Henry, another favourite
Oval with points

you get some great views through the holes

on my way up towards the Henry at the end, i stopped at the lake for a rest under the trees

a few Canada geese and a growing Egyptian (I think, I can't remember)

it was obviously too hot for them out on the water

It is good that the ropes stopping you walking between them have gone.

Two Large Forms

view in between the 2

from the grass!

they look so different from every angle

I crossed over towards the entrance to the woodland

but carried on my way back towards the cafe for a drink

(I had been drinking water)

walked past the rose garden on my way

it was hard to find a table in shade,

another member couple I'd been talking to at the gate paused on their way out, to say they'd seen a muntjac deer near the rhododendrons feeding a young one, with the dad on guard nearby
I'll be sure to look out for it  but another time
it was getting hot sitting still so I headed toward the Evolution garden next

pausing for peonies in the sun

walking through the rose pergola.

I'd finally changed lens - I nearly travelled with just the short zoom for the statues but in the middle of the night I had got up and changed bags back to the rucksack,

so I could have some close ups

there were more poppies open in the evolution garden

bed in front of the veg garden

the wildflower border
looking more colourful already than Saturday

I kept missing the bees though, they were in and out of the centres too quick

alpine house - already open, though it was a little before 10 still

California poppies outside the alpine house

I went to check on the lovely Ox Eye daisies in the rock garden  there don't seem to be as many this year, they look like they've pulled some out

but there were a smaller variety near the huge acer on the corner

I went into the POW

but a fairly quick walk through due to the heat

the leafy top of the latest titan arum - in leaf not flower stage

in the rainforest section.  love the light through these leaves
just a few of the jade vine left
cacti flowering - these are in one of the cabinets so I had to reach round the end of the perspex sides

and over the top
this was gorgeous!

managed not to drop the phone over the edge!

two of the trio on the corner of the Broad Walk

back at the palm house, the young gosling were still cutting the grass!

It was only 10.30 but so hot, I couldn't do any more, so headed for home.

back to a sticky warm office tomorrow, but thanks for looking!

see you Saturday.
