Henry Moore at Kew

Today sees the official opening of Henry Moore, Monumental Art at Kew - it's on until January 2027 so you have plenty of time to see them.    I took lots and lots of photos... have tried to edit the numbers down!

there weren't as many members waiting for entry at 8 as I expected.

I had the short zoom on for most of the visit today to ensure I could get all the sculptures in shot.
so no early macro flowers

off to the left of the Broad Walk were some embedded mirros

they've removed the barriers round the sculptures now, although some have ropes to stop you getting too close.

bedding at the Carbon garden

no sign of the young foxes this morning

view from the waterlily pond

the wildflower bed outside the bonsai house has some poppies out now

I did put the macro on for a bit!

shadows.  looking to the rock garden

along the rose pergola

poppies in the evolution garden

the big red ones are now budding up nicely so should be open soon

quite a few roses open on the pergola
peony

we decided on an early cuppa
there was a huge group of Canadian geese and babies - we didn't count, but over 20
wisteria at the entrance to shop/cafe

we sat at possibly the wobbliest table ever...

I brought treats, my latest M&S obsession, raspberry and white chocolate cookes
then we headed back past the Henry at the Palm House

This one is called Three Piece Sculpture: Vertebrae

rose in the rose garden

I think this is Hill Arches

they look so different from different angles as you walk round them

it nestles into the surroundings so well

Three piece reclining figure: draped

Sheep Piece

although it reminds me of a hippo;  perhaps that is just the size though!

at the lake we found Peter, and the heron
and the swans

they were swimming to and fro on the lake away from us and back again

the heron just stood and watched

the swan was chasing a goose away

it was nice to see the heron again, he's been missing  - or not around - for a while when we've been here lately
then some greylags came up with their youngsters

they came out of the water

there were great reflections

at the far end of the gardens is Large Two Forms

when Kim was here on Thursday, the ropes weren't up so she could walk through it..

Kim's view from the other side!

by the side of the grass path we walked under this tree that had codes growing out of the branches... odd!
near the woodland

I think this is Reclining Figure: Bunched.

he did like a reclining figure.

by the waterlily pond

smoke tree

toning nicely!

outside the Temperate House
Two Figure Reclining Piece: Pointed

at the gallery

Reclining Figure: Elbow

inside the gallery are apparently 90 works - sketches, small pieces, inspiration for some of the larger pieces and smaller working models

the light inside is dim but I did take some photos...
the light was also shining off the cabinets which doesn't help

this cabinet was fascinating.  a row of I think 3 pieces - but the glass creating reflections all round and above.

there were labels all round the cabinets in the gallery but the writing was small and with the dim lighting, impossible to photograph well
you may be able to read this about the piece above Helmet.
I liked these small models and will try for better photos again

in the main exhibition room were a large number of slightly bigger pieces and drawings on the walls

I liked this one a lot.....

Knife Edge: Two Piece
for the view through it here.

I think this is Two Piece Reclining Figure: Cut
and Two Piece Reclining Figure: Points

we headed up the grass path to the Pagoda

Large Reclining Figure

it needed a low view

this low!

damn, blogger is reversing my order now,

from the rear

can you tell I like this one?

there was one more at this end of the garden near Lion Gate

another one I really liked

the piece on the left here reminded me of Durdle Door in Dorset from this angle

heading back towards the exit now,

but a few more to see

this one is called Oval with points

Goslar Warrior

last one for today (I should probably not include this with the woman and her son in the way but hey ho)

Double Oval.

another one that now has a rope round to stop you walking between them (or more probably, kids climging on the ovals)

it is also the one on their spring visitor guide where they have used a perfect shot through the rings of the Palm House ...
now that you can't walk between the ovals, you have to lean in from the side and try...

Kim did well though, and got me in the process !

and that's today - hope you enjoyed -  I haven't got all 30 outside Henry's today, but before January they'll appear!

Thanks for looking, see you next week.
