Kew (from yesterday)

Kew yesterday started properly chilly, and it felt distinctly autumnal...

There was a hiccough with posting as there was some upgrade to the app that reads the pictures from my camera an it couldn't!   I came at it with a clear head today and got it sorted.

Sit back and enjoy, there are lots (I know, there always are...)

Kim was back this week.

it had rained again overnight

this made me giggle as it looked as if the tree was growing through the roof of the palm house rather than behind it

growing in cracks in the wall of the pond
close up of the urn on the corner of the path by the pond
different angle
heading down the Broad Walk first

it was chilly enough for me to put my fingerless gloves on for a while, my hands were itching in the cold whilst I'd been waiting at the gates.

sedums

round the back of the Broad Walk

Elizabeth you may want to skip the next one, the cute little snail was still there

having trouble with blogger and spacing now...

a bit further along Kim spotted this...

we headed round along the border of the grass garden
tall shrub/tree growing t the gate tothe Duke's garden (not a lot in there, they are redeveloping the beds)
noticed some water drops on the very edge of these leaves

the mountain gum tree

I saw an eye....

and another one!!

I mentioned to Kim that  Elizabeth was surprised how close these two are together
lotus flower developing
she spotted that you can also see the Hive in the distance too from this angle
round to the student plots, where hurrah the gate was open

cue Sunflower overload...

i've become fascinated by the backs

vine along the wall (blogger disruption!)
from the gate looking across the plots

patterns on leaves

dahlia

then along to the border of the vegetable garden
I can see you, sunflower....

caster oil plant
Kim in action
cosmos

big-uns!
giant one!

underplanting by the beans, gorgeous colours
back to the sunflowers!  nearly finished now I promise

I kept missing the bees

into the evolution garden,  they physalis always hide under the leaves, they're a devil to photograph
the aniseed fragrance of the fennel was really strong today

it was starting to warm up (I'd taken my gloves off) and the sky trying to go blue...

more favourites

fading echinops again

as usual as we got to the far end we went back up through the other side of the evolution garden
lots of colour

this was the best I got of the bee/wasp on this
alstoemeria going to seed

looking across the evolution garden -the orange is crocosmia

salvia border
patterns on leaves in the rock garden
swirly aloe
in the pond in front of the alpine house./rock garden
sun's out! on the bulrushes
we walked up the steps in the middle of the rock garden -  Kim had seen this fluff!
looking good in the sun.

back at the tree outside the POW - leaves are really turning red now

trying an arty shot of the pine cones

always nice to see the sun on the spray

zoomed on the phone

heading round the pond towards the cafe

although it had warmed up a bit, I had a sausage roll (hot ) and hot chocolate to drink... the sausage roll appears to have shrunk in size (obviously the price has stayed the same!)

after we'd eaten we headed for the Princess of Wales conservatory

in the sun the tree looked very red

thrilled to see this clump of cacti in full flower again

they're awkward to photograph as they're back from the edge of the bed

the phone got it quite well though

there weren't many people in the main bit (by the lily pond) yet

lilies coming - we'll have missed these by next weekend

the other side of the steps these flat lily pads still looking beautiful, love the patterns

these small passionflowers growing up the arch at the far end of the upper level never seem to fully open.

looking down the steps

lower level of the POW

orchid room, back to front ....
losing patience to keep changing them sorry

you have to look carefully for this as it hides under it's leaves

I blurred the photo of the label and can't read it
out towards the exit of the POW

love the soft greyness of this plant

outside bedding
alpine house (out of order again lol)

in the slope between POW and alpine

end of the rock garden
in the wooded area under trees
turning right at the palm house
to go into the waterlily house - this is the steps at the side

the label was visible today
hymenocallis littoralis (and the flower above)

outside again,  still quite a few roses (second flush I suppose)

we headed off tothe lake
bedraggled baby moorhen  obviously been mudbathing!
we sat on the bench and all the geese jumped out thinking we had food for them.

we missed some good action on the lake with 4 flying in to land - both had the wrong lenses on!

in the Davis exploration house now,

we are both obsessed with the Strawflowers

lovely cloud over the Temperate House
trumpet vine in a large tub at the door

love the light!

love this plant and that I managed to get the webbing

I did finally take my hoodie off when we went back outside!

the passionflowers were still tumbling over the pot like last week

outside in the newly planted area, in the sunshine

blue sky to finish!

final shot is the first one I took, actually, whilst I was waiting for Kim first thing, through the gates.

love these pots, as I said to Julia I don't think I could get one on the bus...

thanks for looking - thanks for waiting for me!

see you next week, hopefully without the drama of downloading the photos. (I'd lined it up to take everything into the  pc repair shop on Tuesday!)

I always love seeing the urns and what is growing in them. The urns are awash with amazing color, at least the one you showed.

I can't believe you had to wear gloves because of the cold. It is excessively hot here.

I miss my sedum. I left it growing at my home in Missouri when I moved to Wichita.

Actually, the snail looks cute today, but I still don't care for snails. Thanks for warning me.

Those are some amazing cone flowers. Much thicker centers than the ones that grew in my yard.

Yes, I WAS surprised how close those two buildings are together. I never noticed it before, but it may be because of the perspective they didn't appear so close before this view.

OH WOW. I had NO idea the Hive was that tall, either. Goodness. What a shot.

I love how that sunflower is being born. I also LOVE photo 78. Both color and composition.

Laughed at the sausage roll getting smaller. Seems to be that way everywhere these days.

Always love the photos of the tiny flowers in the Alpine House.

I also love those pots. Too bad they don't have them in a smaller size. Thanks for taking me. I am not off to visit other deskers.

Lovely photos the sunflowers are stunning at the moment and you captured it perfectly. There has definitely been an autumnal nip in the air recently particularly early morning.

Still giggling on the reducing sausagecroll size default sign if the times hope you've had a good week xxx
